A contemporary castle overlooking Lake Maggiore

In the village of San Nazzaro, on the Eastern shore of Lake Maggiore, lies a family house whose radical architecture evokes the idea of an ancient rock. Rooted in the geology of the place and at the same time looking to the future, Casa Romeo is a celebration of contrasting forces.

The outside is raw: climbing plants swarm up the washed concrete surfaces, as if they were protecting the house. Inside, the use of natural materials contributes to creating a warm atmosphere, enhanced by the sunlight that filters in from the courtyards and the ceiling, also thanks to the characteristic square windows.

Located near the entrance and illuminated by several skylights, the kitchen feels like an extension of the courtyard in this project by Wespi De Meuron Romeo Architects. Facing the living room, the island in natural stone houses two of V-ZUG’s state-of-the-art technologies: the Combair V6000 and the CombiCookTop V4000. The sleek lines, seamless design and glass finish of both the oven and the hob contribute to a minimalist, effortless mood, ideal for open plan kitchens.

“The walls of the kitchen courtyard create a game of shadows and reflections, a form of indirect lightning that generates a soft and pleasant atmosphere.” Jérôme de Meuron, Wespi de Meuron Romeo Architects
