A foundation of functionality at Kookaburra Cove

Anna-Carin McNamara, principal of design studio ANNA.CARIN, has brought a renewed sense of space to this home with her refined, minimalist aesthetic. Specialising in kitchen and bathroom design, Anna-Carin always begins with functional needs. In this case, the kitchen has been designed as an open, expansive space, anchored by a large five-metre granite island bench.

To maximise light and openness, Anna-Carin introduced a floating timber screen. What would have been a solid wall, now creates a connection between the kitchen and living area. Additional timber elements – the dining table and custom cabinets – tie everything together, making the space feel cohesive and inviting.

With functionality as the starting point, it was imperative to have products that not only align aesthetically, but also perform. Drawing on the understated Swiss design of V-ZUG, Anna-Carin specified a dual stack of ovens: a V-ZUG CombiSteamer V6000 and Combair V6000. A perfect complement to the denim blue backsplash and grey granite counter, the appliances blend seamlessly with the design language of the kitchen. But the she chose them for more than just good looks, the ovens are streamlined and configured for convenience, coupled with integrated technology such as remote monitoring.

“The Swiss philosophy of heightened functionality is apparent, but like a little bit of a whisper, nothing flashy or showy, just always working hard.” Anna-Carin McNamara, interior designer
